Will of William Dare (b 1605):
November 16, 1667.
"unto Gertrude my daughter in law the house she now lives in during her life lying in Lyme .....aforesaid. And after she dies I give the same unto William Dare her son and to his heirs forever."
(In her will, Gertrude left "one shillen to my son William Dare")
"Also I give and bequeath unto Nicholas Dare my son all that message and . .. which I of late purchased of and from Thomas Dare and John Tamon lying within the fith of S. Lyme in the county of Devon called by the name Youall and all my estate and house and term therein -"
We believe we have located the estate - still called Yawl Farm - in Uplyme, a few kilometers inland from Lyme Regis. An old mill is also located nearby, which we believe was once run by the Dare family. The mill in Lyme Regis proper was definitely run by various Dare family members before this William Dare, according to court documents we have recovered. Of course a number of Dares were also elected Mayors of Lyme Regis. ( See Dare Family Timeline)
(Lyme Bay is an area of the English Channel situated in the southwest of England between Torbay in the west and Portland in the east. The counties of Devon and Dorset front on the bay.)
